Last Merapi eruption in 2010 makes tourism in Sleman, Yogyakarta increase rapidly. Merapi Lava Tour becomes the best tourism destination in Mount Merapi. The tourist invited to surrounding along muddy roads crashing through puddles, and drive over moonscape like landscaped that still devastated from last Merapi eruption using Jeep or trail. During over the track, there is a famous coffee shop namely Warung Kopi Merapi (Merapi Coffee Shop).
Merapi Coffee Shop located in Petung, Kepuharjo, Cangkringan, Sleman, Yogyakarta. Initially, this place named based on its village. But, finally this special coffee from Petung known as Kopi Merapi.
In this place, we can brew a coffee bean originally from Merapi Mount. There are two kinds of coffee namely Robusta and Arabica. For the food, this place only provides fried food and noodle.
The coffee shop was initially a coffee plantation business, which was popular among the locals of Petung hamlet prior to the huge Merapi eruption in 2010. But, Merapi Eruption in 2010 destroyed all the coffee plantation. Finally, the owner took the initiative to establish a coffee and nowadays it called Kopi Merapi.
In November 2012, this coffee shop officially starts to serve the customers. They still use traditional ways to process the coffee bean until now. They use frying pan and clay with wood as fuel. Now, in this area, there are two building (outlet and mosque) founded by the donors.
Location of this coffee shop is on the way to the Merapi Lava Tour. Start from Jl. Kaliurang goes along to the north until find Pakem crossroad, and then take the way to Cangkringan. After 5 kilometers, there is a sign to Kinahrejo, take that way and pass the entrance of Merapi Lava Tour. Then, turn right to Petung tourism village. Go along the way for a few hundred meters until you find the Merapi coffee shop.
The weather of this place is cool enough and we can hear jeep and truck pass the road sometimes. Arid and sandy environment condition makes the dust scattered. Even though it is disturbing, the owner cant do anything. This situation happened as the effect of Merapi Eruption in 2010.
When it is sunny, we can see Merapi Mount clearly from this place. Merapi coffee shop becomes a favorite place to relax after an off-road trip along the slopes of Mount Merapi.
