Kaliurang Tourism is a mainstay tourist attraction in Sleman Regency on the southern slope of Merapi. This tourist area is located in the northern part of DIY Province, 25 km from Yogyakarta. The Kaliurang area has been seen as a tourist destination since the Dutch colonial era. In the 19th century, Dutch geologists living in Yogyakarta intended to find a resting place for their families. When they arrived at Kaliurang, they were fascinated by the beauty and coolness. The Dutch geologists also built bungalows in Kaliurang.
After the Dutch left Indonesia, Kaliurang remained a resting place. Many companies and agencies set up a guesthouse in Kaliurang. In the beginning, the guesthouses were only used for the interests of companies or agencies. Then, it is rented out to the wider community. After it became more crowded and developed, Kaliurang was finally equipped with various tourist facilities.
The Facilities in the Kaliurang Tourism Area
It is located 900 meters above sea level, the air in Kaliurang is cool and fresh. The temperature ranges from 20-25 degrees Celsius. From Kaliurang, Merapi Peak is clear even though it is sometimes covered with fog. In Kaliurang, visitors can play in the Kaliurang Recreational Park. Especially for those who bring children, Kaliurang Recreational Park can be a favorite place for children. About 300 meters to the northeast of the recreational park there is Plawangan Turgo Tourism Park. In this tourist park area there is a Tlogo Putri swimming pool whose water comes from on the slopes of Plawangan Hill. Besides its natural beauty, Kaliurang also holds a wealth of history.
