No one expected that Gunung kidul regency, which is famous for its karst hills, actually has a large forest park that can be used as an alternative tourist destination in Gunungkidul.
Gunungkidul Forest Park or commonly abbreviated as TAHURA is located in the Bunder Forest conservation area, Pathuk, Gunungkidul. Its location close to the Bunder Forest Rest Area makes Tahura a favourite camping spot for nature lovers, students and university students in Yogyakarta. In addition its strategic location and close to the city so it is easy accessible.
The Tahura Bunder area has an area of around 634 hectares with various types of flora and fauna. The biodiversity here makes Tahura Bunder still used as a conservation place for researchers from Yogyakarta and provinces other than Yogyakarta.
Apart from being conservation and camping site, Tahura Bunder is also a breeding area for the Javan Deer (Cervus timorensis) with an area of about 6.2 hectares. Besides that, there is also Sendang Mole, a eucalyptus oil refinery that was founded in the 1980s. The Oya River which flows in the middle of the Bunder Forest which adds to the freshness of this forest area. The scenery with tall trees also makes Tahura Bunder an iconic pre-wedding spot in Jogja.
