Tembi Cultural House Museum is a place to preserve documentation as well as provide information about Javanese history and culture, located in Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. Tembi is also a witness to the birth of local community-based creative works. This cultural house often holds various cultural arts activities such as art exhibitions, traditional and contemporary art performances, dance and theater performances, music, and poetry reading performances. This museum is not funded by any agency. All activities held are non-profit. To meet expenditure needs, Tembi has income from facilities such as Bale Karya, Bale Rupa, Bale Inap, museum, library, swimming pool, and food stalls.
Tembi village used to be one of the places for the Katemben Dalem servant whose have task to take care for children and relatives of the palace family. Then, this village was later named Tembi village. In the village stands a house on Parangtritis street Km. 8,4, Tembi, Timbulharjo, Sewon, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta which is the Tembi House of Cultural Museum. This museum occupies a land area of 3,500 square meters with the main building area of 212 square meters and the entire building area reaches 1,057 square meters, specializing in Javanese culture. Meanwhile, Tembi village is include a GMT (Gabusan-Manding-Tembi) handicraft village area which was inaugurated by Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X on August 31st, 2007.
Tembi Cultural House Museum has several varied collections. From the traditional Javanese equipment including kitchen utensils such as stoves, cooking utensils, weapons like Keris and spears, farming equipments are like of plows, swimming pools, gamelan and batik art equipment, and also ancient photos spot, ancient posters and even antique motorbikes and a library with a total of 5,000 manuscripts. This place also provides exhibition space, meeting rooms, lodging, restaurant, swimming pool and pavilion along with a set of gamelan instruments.
