The Javanese Agriculture Museum of Indonesia was built by the initiation of Kristya Bintara in 1998. In 2005, he and his friends were starting to collect various agriculture tools and equipment collections in the joglo house of Subandi, the head of the village Kanten. But this house was ruined in 2006 because of the earthquake. After that tragedy of the earthquake in Jogja, this museum was rebuilt in the house of Sarjono or Purwowiyono in Candran and it was inaugurated on Mei 4th 2007. In 2017, this Javanese Agriculture Museum of Indonesia got revitalization accommodation from the Department of Culture of D.I Yogyakarta.
The Javanese Agriculture Museum of Indonesia is a museum used to keep, to conserve, and to show all the traditional agriculture tools and equipment, its culture and the farmer traditition in order to educate the visitors. This museum is located in Candran tourism village, Kebonagung, Imogiri, Bantul, DIY. The existence of Candran Tourism Village which becomes the agriculture tourism village really supports this Javanese Agriculture Museum of Indonesia. This Javanese Agriculture Museum of Indonesia was built to keep the farmer’s effort values for the young generations. The values like honesty, simplicity, hard working, tolerance, and always being grateful for the God’s grace are the values that this museum wants to deliver.
The Javanese Agriculture Museum of Indonesia keeps various kinds of Javanese traditional agriculture equipments especially those were used by Yogyakarta society. The agriculture equipments collected are from the donation of the local people and they are kept in this museum as museum collection. The amount of its collection is about 200 pieces. Those collections are such as luku, garu, cangkul, baskets, lesung, lumping, sabit, ani-ani, pan, cowek, kendil, anglo, keren, kenthongan, gosrok, and so on. In addition, the visitors who come to this place can try directly the traditional games like bakiak and egrang. Other than presenting the collection of traditional agriculture tools and equiments, this museum develops also goat farming course with the concept “Ra Ngarit, Ra Angon, Ra Mambu” which means we don’t need to look for the bushes, to shepherd, and the goats won’t smell bad if we do the right nutritional feeding management by giving them dry leaves.
