Sructurally, Sonobudoyo Museum is the agency of the government under UPT of the region in Departement of Culture DIY. The presence of Sonobudoyo Museum is related to the foundation in colonial era namely Java Institute which concern about the culture of Java, Madura, Bali, and Lombok. This foundation becomes the pioneer of Sonobudoyo Museum establishment. This museum was inaugurated by Sri Sultan HB VIII through Candrasengkala Kayu Winayang Ing Brahmana Budha.<\/p>\n
Sonobudoyo Museum was built on the ground where it was the gift of Sri Sultan HB VIII with the sign of Sengkalan Candrasengkala, Buta Ngrasa Estining Lata in 1865 of the Javanese year or in 1934 of the AD year. The inauguration of this museum was done by Sri Sultan HB VIII on Wednesday, 9th of Ruwah in 1866 of the Javanase Year with the sign of Candra Sengkala Kayu Kinayang Ing Brahmana Budha which means the 6th of November AD<\/p>\n
Entering the era of Japanese Colonial, this museum was used as the Social Office of Education by (the mayor Paniradyapati Wiyata Praja), after the independence of Indonesia this museum building was used as the office of DIY Government (the mayor Utorodyopati Budaya Prawito)

he management and the fuction of this museum building have been changed in the end of 1974. Sonobudoyo museum was given to the central government \/ The Departement of Culture and Education and this museum was under the Directorate General based on the Constitution No 22 in 2000 about the authority of the government and the provice as regional autonomy.
