No one expects, Gunungkidul, which is famous for its karstic hills, turned out to have a large forest park that could be used as an alternative tourist destination in Gunungkidul.
Great Forest Park Gunungkidul or ussually called as TAHURA is located in conservation area Bunder Forest, Pathuk, Gunungkidul. The location near to Rest Area Bunder Forest makes Tahura to be a favorite place for camping to nature lovers, students, and university students in Yogyakarta. In addition, this location is very strategic and near to city that makes it affordable.
The Bunder Tahura area has an area of around 634 hectares with various types of flora and fauna. The biodiversity here makes the Bunder Tahura still used as a conservation place for researchers from Yogyakarta and outside Yogyakarta.
Apart from being a conservation and camping site, Tahura Bunder is also a breeding area for the Java Deer (Cervus timorensis) with an area of about 6.2 hectares. Besides that, there is also Sendang Mole, an eucalyptus oil refinery established since 1980s. The Oya River which flows in the middle of the Bunder Forest adds to the coolness of this great forest area. The scenery with tall trees soaring also makes Tahura Bunder an iconic prewedding place in Jogja.
Administratively, the Bunder Forest Park (Tahura) area is located in Gading Village, Playen District, Gunung Kidul Regency, D.I Province of Yogyakarta, namely on the edge of the Yogya-Wonosari highway.
