Kulon Progo has the tourism object that is as beautiful as other tourism objects in Special Region of Yogyakarta. The local residents are always well developing the nature day by day to become a magnificent natural tourist destination. One of them is a waterfall which is famous for its water color and natural beauty that could please the eyes. It is Kedung Pedut Waterfall.

Kedung Pedut Waterfall can be called hidden gems, because it is located between the Menoreh Mountains. The exact location is in Kembang, Jatimulyo Village, Girimulyo District, Kulon Progo. To reach this place, visitors can use a private vehicle and drive to the west of Jogja with an estimated 1 hour drive. The estimated distance between Jogja and Kedung Pedut Waterfall about 35 kilometers, the route is quite difficult but it’s still accessible.

After arriving at the location, visitors cannot see this waterfall. To see the beauty of this 2-color waterfall, visitors have to walk, climb and go down the hill to get to the location of Kedung Pedut Waterfall. But you don’t need to worry, the tiredness of walking will immediately pay off when you see the beautiful scenery while walking. Green rice fields with a terracing system and rows of high cliffs will be able to amaze visitors.

When they arrive at Kedung Pedut Waterfall, visitors will be fascinated. The waterfall is so heavy, with nature that is still very beautiful and the clear water will make visitors are really interested to explore it. The name “Kedung Pedut” comes from Javanese, “Kedung” means pool and “Pedut” means fog. The term “Misty pool” is given to this place because the swift of the waterfall that flows on the rocks creates white foam that is much like fog. Meanwhile, Kedung Pedut Waterfall has many natural ‘swimming pools’.

There are 5 kedung or natural pools here, namely Kedung Merang, Kedung Merak, Kedung Wedok, Kedung Lanang and Kedung Anyes. These five kedung have different of depths. Those are from 2 meters to 5 meters deep. Visitors are allowed to swim or play water in the kedung with safety requirement.

Kedung Pedut Waterfall is unique because of color of the water. Different from the ordinary waterfalls, Kedung Pedut Waterfall has clear water and Tosca. Clear water because of the swift flow of the waterfall which forms foam, while the color of Tosca water is estimated from the reflection of sunlight hitting the rocks from the Menoreh Mountains.

The upstream of this waterfall comes from the Mudal River. Where the Mudal River is also the source of other waterfalls such as Kembang Soka Waterfall. The Mudal River is also a spring for the local Kulon Progo residents to fulfill their daily needs.

Besides swimming and playing water in the waterfall or in Kedung, visitors can take pictures or take selfies photo in the area around this place. There is a sturdy and neat bamboo bridge for visitors to cross from rock to rock. There are also interesting photo spots with the background of Kedung Pedut Waterfall.

The entrance fee to Kedung Pedut Waterfall is very reasonable. It is Rp 6,000 / person and a parking fee of Rp 3,000 for motorbikes and Rp 10,000 for cars. The facilities provided are toilets, bathroom and prayer rooms for visitors. Because this is water tourism or people usually call Kedung Pedut Waterfall as a natural waterpark, you should bring extra clothes and wear comfortable sandals!
