The Purbayan Tourism Village is located in the Purbayan Village, Kota Gede and in Kota Gede Cultural Heritage’s Area which the part of this location is in Bantul Regency. The name Purbayan derived from the name of a prince, namely Prince Purboyo, the son of Panembahan Senopati. Purbayan tourism village has rich historical value from Mataram Kingdom which is able to be the main attraction of tourism destination in the Yogyakarta city.

Purbayan tourism village consists of several villages scattered in the area of Purbayan village Kotagede such as :
1. Kampung nDalem:
Kampung nDalem is located in the south of Kotagede market. It is called Kampung nDalem because in Mataram kingdom era, in Panembahan Senopati to Sultan Agung reign period, Kampung nDalem was used as the main area of Mataram Kingdom or used as the residence of Mataram King until the reign of Sultan Agung who moved the capital of the Mataram kingdom from Kotagede to Kerto. The historical relic of Kotagede palace in Kampung nDalem are the partial of Cepuri fortress and the andesite stone called Watu Gilang. The stone is black square stone with the dimension of 2 meters x 2 meters X 30 centimeters and it is kept in the small building in the middle of Kampung Ndalem street. This place is believed as Panembahan Senopati’s throne.
2. Kampung Alun-alun:
Kampung alun-alun is located in the south of Kotagede market or to the southeast of the Mataram Gedhe Mosque. During Mataram Kingdom era, Kampung Alun-alun was used as the Mataram Royal Square. Kampung Alun-Alun is now also called ‘Between Two Gates’ village. Why is it called Between Two Gates? It is because the houses in this village were built in line from east to west and the houses are face each on a road going north and south. The rows of houses are separated by a small road like a corridor that connects the two gates where they are in the east and the west ends.
3. Kampung Cokroyudan:
Kampung Cokroyudan or also known as Kampung Pusaka Alun-alun Cokroyudan is on the south side of Masjid Agung Kotagede. This village is located in the Purbayan district. The name Cokroyudan derived from the name of a Mataram royal prince namely Cokroyudan who lived in this area. Cokroyudan village also has uniqueness in its houses around that have Javanese architecture style.

Kampung Bumen :
Kampung Bumen is situated on the northeast of Gedhe Market. The word “bumen” is used because there was the residence of Prince Mangkubumi, Panembahan Senopati’s brother. Kampung Bumen has a great potency in the processing of making various handicrafts from cans, in Kembang Waru bread making which can only be found in the village of Bumen. Silver craftsman activity can also be seen in several houses in the Kampung Bumen. Kampung Bumen also has historical value in the Mataram kingdom era where it can be seen from the historical site which is known the building relic of the royal princess residence.

And there are many other village name related to the history and the background of this village. According to potential attraction of the cultural heritage sites and historical buildings in Purbayan Tourism Village, this village develops the tourism attraction products based on historical education and supported also by traditional culinary and crafting attractions, especially silver that can be found easily in Kota Gede area.
