Siung Beach is located in Duwet, Purwodadi, Tepus, Gunung Kidul, Special Region of Yogyakarta. Located 77 km away from the city of Jogja, Siung Beach can be reached within 2 up to 3 hours. The access to Siung Beach is quite difficult, because visitors have to pass the uphill road with hairpin curve and some narrow roads. However, this hard journey would be paid off by the beauty of Siung Beach.
There is a uniqueness of Siung beach name. Siung Beach has high rocks on the west and east sides of the beach. If we see that from the top of the hill or from afar, these two cliffs are similar to ape teeth or called Siung Wanara in Javanese language. That’s why this beach is called as “Siung beach”.
The view of Siung Beach deserves thumbs up. Stretched white sand, blue sea water and beautiful corals on both sides would make the visitors being very excited exploring this beach area. There are various kinds of activities can be done in this beautiful beach. We can play on the water, on the sand, swim, explore the beach. The visitors can also climb the hill which is on the east side of the beach. But they must be careful, because the climbing track is quite steep and it is bordered by canyon. When we climb the hill, sometimes we would discover long-tailed macaques. Reaching the top of the hill, the visitors can see the beautiful scenery of beach.
Siung Beach has a high rise of giant rock. It becomes the reason why the Japanese nature lovers come to this beach to do a kind of extreme sports like rock climbing. Eventually, many people try to do rock climbing on this beach. Even today, Siung Beach has 250 rock climbing trails that have different level of difficulty.
This beach had ever become the location of ASEAN Climbing Gathering event where the participants were such as locals and foreigners. And in 2005, Siung Beach was inaugurated as one of the rock climbing locations in Jogja. Siung Beach had even been nominated as the Best Rock Climbing Site in Yogyakarta.
Because there are many nature lovers who want to try this rock climbing activity, some of the climbers decide to build a tent on the east side of Siung Becah. Usually, they bring their own. Not only nature lovers, tourists are also allowed to camp on Siung Beach. They can feel the sensation of being on a beach camp where they would sense the night breeze of the ocean and see the beautiful night skies full of stars.
Entering Siung Beach area, the visitors need to pay an entrance ticket of IDR 10,000. This entrance fee includes already the entrance ticket of Nglambor and Jogan beah which is located close to Siung Beach. The parking retribution costs IDR 5,000 for a motorbike and IDR 10,000 for a car. The facilities provided at Siung Beach are quite complete. There are spacious motorcycle and car parking area, bathrooms and toilets, mushola and food court area where you can get some tyipical dishes if you feel hungry.
