Enjoying the Beauty of Ngobaran Beach With the Historical and Cultural Tourism

On the beach in Kanigoro Village, Saptosari Sub-district, Gunungkidul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, visitors can also get cultural and historical tourism.

Ngobaran is not a beach that has long coastline with white sand. This beach is a cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean.

The karst cliff that blends with the waves of the south coast presents an awesome view. If sea water recedes, visitors can see the expanse of seaweed (algae) that is also an exotic view.

The attraction of its culture and history makes the beach so unique and different from other beaches in Gunungkidul Regency. On the edge of a cliff facing the sea, there is a building like a temple.

In this area, there are a number of white god statues and the semar figures. Besides that, there are inscriptions that mention the place resembling the temple was built as a sign that the Ngobaran Beach is the location of Brawijaya V redemption, descendant of the King Majapahit.

From the story that developed in the local people, Ngobaran Beach was a place for Brawijaya V escape after the Majapahit area began to be controlled by Islam.

There are several versions of the story about the existance of Brawijaya V in Ngobaran.

It was said that when escaping from Majapahit, Prabu Brawijaya V pretending to burn himself in Ngobaran. He took this way because Brawijaya V did not want to fight against his son, Raden Patah (The First King of Demak) who had embraced Islam.

However, there was a story said that Prabu Brawijaya indeed burned himself with a wife whom he invited to go from Majapahit.

Besides the temple, on the east side there is a building that resembles a temple.

In addition, there are also mosque and a joglo building. Joglo is often used to hold some certain rituals.

As a tourist attraction, the facilities at Ngobaran Beach are quite complete. There are several restaurants, bathrooms/toilets, and a large parking area.

To enter the beach, each visitor is charge of IDR 5,000. Besides being able to enjoy Ngobaran Beach, visitors can also visit Ngrenehan Beach and Nguyahan Beach.
